Project diary: Day 1
Tuesday 25 September
What are my expectations of
today?
Today we will find out
exactly what is expected of us for this project.
How did I experience the
CTD/on site exercise?
We measured up today, and did some sketches
What did I learn today?
I learnt what materials we
will be working with and that we will be designing a screen for the container
which will be transformed into a library. We also took note of the junctions
connecting the primary structure to the secondary structure and so on.

Wednesday 26 September
What are my expectations of
today?
I expect that today we will
have to come up with a design for the screen that is simple yet aesthetically
pleasing for the children
How did I experience the
CTD/on site exercise?
We were given a task to come
up with a design for the screen and after we finished our individual designs we
were put into groups and had to combine our designs.
What did I learn today?
I learnt about health and
safety regulations, something which is needed for when one works on site, we
also had a speaker who did some container transformations and gave us some
inspiration.

Thursday 27 September
What are my expectations of
today?
We need to sort out the
materials we have and the machinery, and need to figure out what needs to be
fixed up. Also the design needs to be finalized.
How did I experience the
CTD/on site exercise?
Since the weather wasn't all
that great I was in the hall painting the apple crates for the existing
screens.
What did I learn today?
Well today I just had fun
painting the crates

Friday 28 September
What are my expectations of
today?
Drawing up sections and
details on house Infanta, and to understand the detailing; which would then entail you to understand the structure itself.
How did I experience the
CTD/on site exercise?
It was a bit tough since we weren't given much information and we had to come up with the details from scratch.
What did I learn today?
Learnt more about detailing
with regards to housing.

Monday 01 October
What are my expectations of
today?
Continue with work on site
with fixing up existing structures and working on the new structure
How did I experience the
CTD/on site exercise?
Today I did quite a bit of
drilling and was busy with the hammer fixing up the deck, removing the unstable
pieces of the deck and replacing them with new ones. We also had to oil the
deck and wipe it down afterwards.
What did I learn today?
Today I learnt how to use a
drillJ, working on site is quite enjoyable.

Tuesday 02 October
What are my expectations of
today?
Draw sections and details on
steel framed structure based on house Sue, after which to understand the structure
How did I experience the
CTD/on site exercise?
Today we had less time to do the details and sections, but learnt quite a lot
What did I learn today?
Learnt about detailing steel
framed structures, especially with concerns to how cladding is incorporated into steel portal frames.

Wednesday 03 October
What are my expectations of
today?
Finish up the steps leading
to the playground and the new deck; also continue with the new screen.
How did I experience the
CTD/on site exercise?
Did some sanding of the
planks for the steps with the heavy duty sander and was busy with the
electrical drill; fixing up the existing screens.
What did I learn today?
Learnt about reinforcing a
seat which wasn't very sturdy and how to use an electric drill.

Thursday 04 October
What are my expectations of
today?
Draw up sections and details
of last year’s structure on site as well as this year’s structure. As this would show our understanding of the structure.
How did I experience the
CTD/on site exercise?
Today was quite long trying to fit in as many drawings of our understanding of the structure that is of the old and the new.
What did I learn today?
Learnt more about the
structure and the detailing that is being built by us.

Friday 05 October
What are my expectations of
today?
Need to clean up the site and
finish small things here and there
How did I experience the
CTD/on site exercise?
The site was a bit crammed
today with too many people as it was the first day both groups was on site
together also leaving less jobs to do. I also helped with cleaning up the site
What did I learn today?
Well today was more of just help out where you could.
